Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) was not always considered to be the classical autoimmune disease it is now known to be. Studies by the Nobel Laureate Bernardo Houssay and others had shown that injection of pituitary growth hormone and later cortisol could induce diabetes in experimental animals. Besides some decreased cellular responses in vitro, no disturbances in adaptive immunity in diabetic patients have been described. Different disturbances (low complement factor 4, decreased cytokine response after stimulation) in humoral innate immunity have been described in diabetic patients. It is these cells which enable the pancreas to produce insulin. 2012-08-17 study conducted in Nigeria had shown that humoral immunity provided by complement C3, C4 and IgM is more deranged in Type 2 diabetic patients compared with Type 1 (Akinlade etal.,2004).In view of the scarcity of data, this study was undertaken to evaluate humoral immune response with respect 1985-04-01 2015-06-01 Humoral immunity in type 1 diabetes Our project entitled humoral immunity investigates several serological aspects of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Our group also serves as the ELISA autoantibody core wherein we oversee the screening laboratories and together with the University of Colorado maintain quality assurance and control for this program. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) (formerly known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) is the conventional example of a T-cell-mediated disease, which selectively targets pancreatic β cells. T1DM presents a complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors, most of which have yet to be identified. The immunologic diagnosis of autoimmune diseases relies primarily on the detection with type 1 diabetes at onset of diabetes, or before puberty and, if they are positive should be tested the thyroid function annually to minimize the risk of undiagnosed hypothyroidism.

Humoral immunity is named so because it involves substances found in the humors, or body fluids. It contrasts with cell-mediated All 7 diabetes-susceptible rats had ICSA and LA at some time during the study. It is concluded that there is a high incidence of circulating ICSA and LA in the spontaneously diabetic BB rat. The antibodies can often be detected before the onset of diabetes, and may be implicated in the beta-cell destructive process and in the lymphocytopenia characteristic of the syndrome.

Humoral immunity depends on the immune system’s ability to produce antibody molecules which bind and inactivate infectious agents. Cellular immunity involves the development of immune cells that are able to recognize, bind, and kill other cells that have previously been infected by foreign infectious agents. We analysed the relation between humoral and cellular immunity to multiple islet cell antigens, including human insulin, glutamate decarboxylase GAD65, tyrosine phosphatase (ICA512/IA2), human pancreas and RIN cells in 28 patients with newly diagnosed type 1 Humoral immunity, which involves B cells (lymphocytes), a type of white blood cell that produces antibodies (immunoglobulins) Diabetes: Good control of blood sugar levels can help white blood cells function better and thus prevent infections.
